OneInThree is Ross Elliot Cooper & Bugsy Riverbank Steel. Since signing to Colonel Blimp Bugsy and Ross have directed music videos for established international artists such as 'Badly Drawn Boy', 'Bloc Party', this years pop sensation 'Ellie Goulding' as well as many smaller independent act's like 'The Teenagers' & Domino's 'Wild Beasts'. Cooper and Steel met at Central Saint Martins in London where they studied graphic design and film. After graduating they went their separate ways, Cooper to the Royal College of Art (where he won two Silver D&AD awards for his video installation work) and Steel to the film industry (working with the likes of Barry Ackroyd BSC/ASC & Steven Poliakoff). They started working together a few years later when they moved into neighboring garden sheds situated inside an East London warehouse, which was later to become the location of their first four no budget videos. Their passion for design and art direction, is evident in their promo for 'The Bishops - Breakaway', where they designed the band a new logo to work as a backdrop for the white studio shoot, the band adopted this as their de facto logo and used the set for their album cover shoot. An example of OneInThree's beautiful experiments with light and space is 'Badly Drawn Boy’s - Promises'. A choreographed orchestra of hundred's of household lamps glowing in time to the music, accompanying Damon as he sings hauntingly at the piano. In the current climate of decreasing music video budgets, OneInThree have acquired the skills to create fantastic videos from start to finish. They have self produced 8 of their own videos, they often art direct them, edit them, conform them, and do their own post production & effects. They regularly pioneer their own techniques like in the mesmerizing and hypnotic masterpiece for 'Wild Beasts - Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants' which was originally inspired by an Escher Lithograph, 'The Print Room'. Although this wide skill set is often a necessity in the lower budget promo realm, the experience has proved invaluable in their modestly larger budget videos. It is this flair and multi skilled approach that is gaining them recognition and respect from the industry. Having already been nominated for a number of awards from the likes of Arena Magazine, O2 and D&AD. They also have the most nominations of any new director at the UK Music Video Awards 2008: Nominated - Best New Director Nominated - Best Art Direction - Badly Drawn Boy Nominated - Best Budget Video - The Teenagers In Book - Art Direction - D&AD 2008 - Badly Drawn Boy |
